Amazing Tapas place in D.C.'s Chinatown (yeah, I know, Tapas in
Chinatown... Don't ask) with even better sangria... I forget what went
into this one, but it was somewhere along the lines of sparkling white
wine, rose wine, and champagne... With a generous helping of
blueberries on the bottom. I've drank my fair share of sangria and
this is by far the best I've ever had...

... Which might explain the raging hangover I had by midnight after
walking around in the hot sun exploring the White House, Washington
Monument, and Smithsonian...

Wish I'd taken more pictures in D.C. this weekend... I took a whopping
3... An all-time low for me... Good times... and like all weekends,
especially during intern year: too short!

What a waste of paper, printing out all the useless slides on
restraints and HIPAA and How-not-to-get-fired-for-sexual
harassment-and-getting-drunk-on-the-job...

I guess I really shouldn't be complaining since:
A) they feed us, and pretty well most of the time.
B) they pay us! (this I just found out today and it makes the whole
process that much more bearable :)

On the other hand...
A) It's super annoying that the 6 is the only train that goes to Mount Sinai
B) My brain is mush by the end of the day with mostly useless
information... and overwhelmed with things like 20-minute
cram-sessions on billing & coding...

Overall, I'm happy to say I'm surrounded by a great group of
co-interns... and really glad to be back in NYC for the year :)

It's gonna be a good one ahead. I can feel it. Hard. But good.

Just got back to my cousin's place in Honolulu after an awesome day of
touristy fun, from the Dole plantation to that huge outdoor mall (Ala
Moana) and a killer surfing lesson in between.

While sharing a giant-sized order "Yummy" (it's a super popular chain
around here) Korean BBQ chicken with him, I reluctantly popped open a
can of Porter I spied in the fridge... Normally, I dislike any type of
porter but dude... This one, like the 10-15 types of beers I've
already tried since being here (I love my cousin), is just...

... Wait for it...

AWESOME!

Goes especially well with Ghiradelli caramel latte chocolate ;)

Made a trip to Kona brewing company over the weekend... Highly
recommended: great beer with an awesome view!

Also thanks to my child-psychiatrist of a cousin... I am now I'm
addicted to Ilomilo on XBox...

My first Giants game at the age of 21. My then-boyfriend and I wore
matching Barber jerseys as we cheered for the Giants about 4 rows up
from the 50-yard line. I think they were playing the Eagles... All I
know is that they won, and it was one of the best games of football

with coffee and water in the right proportions so that whenever I
want, all I have to do to turn it on...

She also always puts an empty cup (one of four that I like) with a

As I unload my car of all its goodies from the move back home, Dad's
gardening in his usual get-up: pajamas with dress socks over the
pants, and older versions of the Rockport sneakers he wears to work.

"It is the best way to minimize skin exposure," he says.

My mortification as a teenager over my dad out in the neighborhood
dressed like a hobo has now turned into adult endearment and
amusement.

... Graduation flowers in a beer-stein because I already gave away my
vases, boxes full of things to bring the Salvation army, and mom and
dad shuffling through the other rooms in my apartment yelling out
things like, "I can't believe this! When I was a student, we had one
mattress, with a sink and table with a wooden chair..."

My dog, always the bully, is busy chasing my neighbor's dog in and out
between both our apartments, the two scurrying about between our legs,
yipping and barking.

My neighbor and his fiancee are busy sorting through the things
they'll be keeping, in addition to pretty much all my furniture
(including the bed... Desks... Kitchen table... Futon...)

As anyone who has ever visited my spacious, hardwood floors, 2BR
apartment would know...

... I like to nest. For real.

Which makes moving all my things out of this place nothing short of epic.

I tore out this ad from the latest edition of the American Journal of
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation because I interviewed at Magee
Rehab Hospital in Philly (of Thomas Jefferson University) for
residency and know that this isn't just an ad.. This IS their actual
motto... Principle... Belief.

From the physicians, to the nurses, PT's, OT's, speech therapists,
psychologist... These people are tireless in their dedication to their
patients... I've seen it, I believe in it...

... and I have chosen to be a part of it.

Funny... What cinched my decision to pursue PM&R was the fact that I
actually can pick up any journal in the field and WANT to read it.
When I caught myself doing that (vs rolling my eyes at some of the
esoteric research published in other journals)... I was reminded of
something I'd been told by my physician-mentor my very first year of
medical school: "the best way to know if a field is right for you is
to go and pick up a few journals related to that field and go through
them with interest. If you can't do that, I'd think twice... Because
that's what you'll be eating, breathing, and shitting for the rest of
your life."

And here I am. Reading the PM&R journal on my sick day.

Yup. I made the right choice.

Making a MESS of my study room!

Yes I have two study desks (both glass, with matching bookshelves),
two study chairs (one leather, one mesh)...

... and a LOT of books... and papers... and knick knacks...

(most of which were behind me when I look these picture)

My idea of packing generally equals a mess. This time is no different. Aaaaugh.
